~If you are reading this, then realize that you are reading the "Chapter Three" for the old version of "Moment of Darkness." As of this moment, everything is being updated and fixed and the new plot lines are completely different. Thank you all for reading though, :) Oh... and also.. This chapter used to be my favorite for this version. After this one the plot line is terrible~
Not
but a minute before I felt his razor teeth slip into my neck like a
key into a lock, the visual images ravaged my body. In the first
flash, I saw a mirror of the young me gathered at a table filled with
celebration. Voices cheered, both vague and clear. Confetti was
everywhere, but the people didn't seem to care. A vibrant young girl,
Gwen, stood by my other self's side, licking the icing off of a pink
sprinkled cupcake. I watched myself lean into the cake, decorated
with red swirls around the edges and brown smearing over the rest.
With a pursing of the lips and the small breath of air enveloping a
small flame, I was forced into the next memory.
Some
five years after my sixth birthday was where I found myself, hovering
outside of my body with another image of me. My still younger self
had shorter, straight hair and was lined with smooth blond highlights
that glittered in a moonlit night. The eyes we both shared were
dotted with water in the corners, as we both remembered the incident
so clearly. A rumble of thunder descended like a slow wave,
enveloping us and then vanishing. I crossed over to her, watching her
hunched shoulders be jolted with tears. I knew it was just a memory,
and that she wouldn't feel it, but I still tucked the loose strand of
hair hanging down behind her ear, wishing I could turn her away from
this dark time. This is me. A voice in my head whispered. This
still is me.
Turning
away from the sight, I cried into my hands. The ferocity of emotions
pelted me with stones, the memory of a time not so long ago when I'd
thought of committing vile deeds. The remembrance of what I'd felt;
The feeling of something loved with all of your soul, wanting
desperately to hold in your arms and take the pain away, gone like a
cut from a blade. My young self, eyes dried now, stood with a
clouded thought process, praying to the heaven above. The scared girl
inside of her formulated a wretched plot, only capable of the
miserable. The thoughts that swept over her leaked into my head like
an incredibly contagious plague. Our thoughts mingled for a second,
and I stood, staring longingly at my wrists, as though we were one in
the same. Batting it away with sudden courage, I watched her stumble
back up the porch steps and into a silent house, all the while
knowing without a doubt what she was about to do.
Winded
and emotionally raw, I found myself in a familiar bedroom, having
been transferred into the next memory. The walls were a leafy green
color and the boarder a angelic white. The room harbored carmel brown
hardwood floors that were appealing to the eye and was filled with a
complete set of furniture to match. On the bed sat two fourteen year
old girls, both looking close to tears. One had on a smooth purple
shirt that tied in the back, hair long and black. She held the other,
a girl with long brown hair and a white shirt that revealed her black
undershirt. The white-shirted girl was me, balling into the other's
arms. Recognizing myself, I realized suddenly who the other was. What
night this was. Gwen, holding me with her own bright eyes alarmed at
my previous self's revelations, felt like it was yesterday. The
feeling of her comfort wrapped around me like a blanket, startling me
back to reality.
His
teeth pierced into my skin, my struggles no match for this merciless
beast. The sharp pang of loss hit me like a bullet into the stomach
as I somehow found my way back into my body, watching Gwen's crumple
to the floor. Spasms gripped her body as she still tried to press the
monsters back, but they clambered over her and reached for us. Silas
gripped my hand, finding my eyes, yanking me towards him. The exit
door appeared miles away to my mortified heart, but I set that aside
as I rushed towards it, hands gathered in his.
All
around us the terrified screams of the other children in pure agony
rang about as the beasts tore into them one by one. The more of us
that were attacked and fallen, the more that turned against its own
kind, designated traitors. Reaching the back door, Silas gave the
door a tap and it swung open like an insane magic trick. Moving off
to the side, he nearly shoved me out of the door, causing me to loose
my balance, practically falling onto the unforgiving asphalt. My
ankle twisted to the side as I landed on it, then folding onto the
ground. I bit back tears as the pain swung up my leg, every inch of
me screaming like the kids above my head. With a steady 'plop' Silas
landed next to me, looking horrified at my weak state. I read the
words on his lips ages before it escaped him, the profanity digging
into me but not as much as my leg did.
“Can
you walk?” He asked, almost closing his eyes in the horror of the
moment. Grimly, I watched his face as with a slight shake of the head
I gave him my answer.
“Come
on, you've got to try.” He reached down, and the moment his hand
pressed upon my back in aid to help me up, I felt an extreme amount
of electricity pulse through my veins, the pain more excruciating
then before. And then, just like that, it dwindled, vanishing. My
mouth opened and closed in awed wonder, light vapors pouring from my
mouth.
I
let him help me up, limping ever so slightly, but able to sustain
pressure. At the same moment, one of the undead plopped itself down
from the bus, roaring at me. Silas's hand moved like a lightning
bolt, striking it so quickly that I couldn't follow the movement. His
hand reached for mine, pulling me forward and away from the seething
creature who began to follow us like a mad bull.
“We've
got to move faster!” He cried as the thing gained speed, closing in
on us. Its eyes were wide with immense hunger, one that could turn
the soul to stone.
“I'm
trying! I'm trying!” I choked, the fear rising up into my throat,
but the more I willed my legs to move faster, the slower I became,
and soon it was Silas practically dragging me along that kept me out
of its clutches.
“You
have to let me go,” I demanded of him suddenly, tears welling up in
my eyes.
“I
won't leave you!”
"You have to!"
"I can't do that to you, Sav!"
"You have to!"
"I can't do that to you, Sav!"
“I'll-I'll
trip you if you don't!” It was a weak threat, and he knew it, but
with the creatures wild roars joining in a chorus of others, his face
read of that filled with pure sorrow.
“I
will never forget you, Savannah.” He said, his tone filled
with the utmost sincerity, one that almost made me take him in my
arms, begging him not to let me go. To ask that he protect me
forever, to keep me like a puppy and carry me to safety.
And
then he removed his arms from my back that had pressed me along, and
he sprinted forward, leaving me in the dust, never to look back. I
tried to continue after him, but my leg twisted out from underneath
of me, and I fell to the ground. I felt their presences around me as
I huddled there, trying desperately to crawl along, though in vain.
My
heart dropped into my stomach as the first of them dug their razor
claws into my arm, reaching for my neck. I thrashed and kicked
against it but the others soon joined in. As the first really did
bring its teeth inches away from my neck, my death and demonism
moments away, my eyes closed and my head tilted, a blackness
consuming me of its own accord. My last thoughts became that of a
small prayer. Lord, make it quick.
