Chapter Six: Welcome Home - Part One

~If you are reading this, then realize that you are reading the "Chapter Six" for the old version of "Moment of Darkness." As of this moment, everything is being updated and fixed and the new plot lines are completely different. Thank you all for reading though, :) ~

Like a flip of the whip, my eyes snapped opened, fueled by tremendous force. The scream was acid on my lips, resonating soundlessly in my mind. I was sitting as straight as a rocket, my hand automatically clasped over my heart. With deep, sinking breathes I calmed myself, gradually, like a startled cat.
When I was finally calm, I began to take in my surroundings and decide what I had to do next. Gaze wandering, I pondered over objects that would have little meaning in a regular world. A chair lay crumpled in the corner, easily used as a weapon. A window, perfectly framed had boards over it, letting only the slightest light stream through. If I were really desperate, I could tear away at a nail, use it to disorientate the hounds of hell. My mind was racing, wondering what I could do with the glass from the shades over the dimmed lights when a figure stepped in.
His hair was raven black, the tips of it tickling his shoulders like the raven's claws. His skin seemed abnormally pale, similar to familiar color of crisp new snow. The most powerful of his appearance were his eyes – two bright yellow and brown specked globes that shone with an obscured intensity. I spotted a thin gold chain dangling from his neck, close and clinging. His clothes were that of someone who'd just awakened; A light grey shirt and some rumpled sweat pants.
The moment my eyes found his, I was consumed. The very sight of him muddled my thoughts, turning them into a sort of soupy gravy. I attempted time and time again to pry my gaze away, but the task became that of a chore. The mind soup that clouded my thoughts scared me, sending my heart into a panicked fury. Yellow tore at the edges of my mind, ripping to shreds everything I've ever believed in. Memories, wishes, scares – all so easily downloaded by the thing with the yellow eyes.
    And then it stopped.
Finding that I could direct my eye movement, I felt a cold hardwood floor beneath my cheek. My eyes detected that this was an entirely different place. A fancy dining room, with paintings lining the walls and two windows holding hands, tied by white delicate fabric draped over them. The chair in front of me wasn't broken either – In truth, it was perfectly carved with intricate lines twisted into the wood. My nose pressed against something different altogether; A rug, laced with a elegant floral design, greeting me with a gentle breeze.
I pushed myself up with my hands into a sitting position, stretching my sore legs out in front of me. Looking for my wound, my gaze shifted to my ankle, but with a renewed wonder, it was gone. My face twisted into something resembling a bright half-smile. I pressed onto my feet, taking one last gander at my surroundings. The painting on the wall seem like rolling waves pulsed from it, but I took no notice.
The adjoining hallway took the breath from my lungs as was it covered in an immense beauty. The paintings lining the walls and ceiling rivaled that of the great Sistine Chapel herself. The magnificent colors flourished, dancing like twinkling northern lights. It was just the eye candy I'd always dreamed of. More than the perfected paintings on the walls, I was drawn forward by a spectacle at the end of the tunnel.
The door seemed as if it were glowing. Pure white energy licked around the sides of it with a grin, drawing me ever closer. I could already feel the silver knob beneath my fingertips, though I was steps away. I felt the hall's wooden floors become grass, and my feet become bare. Warmth wrapped around my shoulders, shaking me into a heavenly sight.
Tentatively, I reached my hand out and around the handle. Pulling the door ajar, I heard hissing and screeching on the other side, and I couldn't help but peer into the gap, nervous for what lay beyond. The sight shocked me into a frozen state, caught between several figures staggering alongside of a broken road.
